DBPOWER MJX X400W 2.4GHz 4 Channel 6 Axis Gyro Quadcopter with FPV Wifi Camera Review
You may be wondering if is it really possible to get a decent, low priced starter Drone that is FPV (First Person View) ready?
Maybe not on most beginner Drones, but move over other Quadcopters – this is the review for the DBPOWER MJX X400W!
With a sleek and distinctive design, this is a Drone that not only does what the rest can do, but also gives you that extra bit of something special – “eyes in the skies” FPV capability, and for the relatively low price tag is the difference that makes a difference !!
This is a great introduction for Drone enthusiasts who are just starting out as with the FPV real-time video transmission capabilities, you can get an all round idea of what’s possible in a Quadcopter, and can then take it forward with higher spec, larger price tag machines if you want to take it to the next level.
Also known as the Hawkeye-VII, this is a great specification Quadcopter which is versatile and suited to beginner pilots because of the helpful control assisting features, and for the modest price tag, we think this is great value for money.

So What Do We Think – Our Verdict
If you’re looking for the added dimension of First Person View (FPV) then this is a really great choice for you, especially on a budget.
The camera quality is not the best, but for the price tag we don’t think you can expect it to be or argue too much about that, it does the job and still works well.
It further stands out as it is compatible with 3D VR Headsets (these are not included) which gives you a real taste of actual FPV flying.
There is a wifi module already built in which then connects the camera directly to your mobile device via an App you download.
You can then see exactly what your camera sees with a live video feed on your mobile device which is also compatible with the 3D VR Headset if you have one using the 3D split screen function.
Whilst not great in strong winds, this flies OK in lighter breezy conditions, so you will need to judge this for yourselves, but outdoors usually presents no major issues.
The flight time is also better than most Quadcopters in this range, with an average of about 8 to 9 minutes but it will be less if you use the FPV functionality.
Charging time is quite long at around 120 minutes, so as always it’s a very good idea to order extra batteries which are quick and easy to swap over to keep the fun going, although it’s recommended you give the MJX X400W a rest between battery changes.
The controller is standard and quite easy to get the hang of and you should be able to get a good level of control in a short space of time if you are a beginner.
The 6-axis flight control systems will keep you stable and headless mode will also help you out, especially if you are a beginner to Drones.
Headless mode works to simplify your flying experience so that it doesn’t matter which way the Drone is technically “facing”, if you push the forward direction lever on your controller the Drone will move forward.
The MJX X400W also comes equipped with blade protectors as standard in the box so you don’t damage them or objects you may come into contact which is handier than you think.
Stunts are pretty good too and you can easily master and perform 3D Flips and Rolls at the touch of a button to impress your friends – very cool and definitely a lot of fun!
So overall this is a great beginner Quadcopter and we think real value for money for what you are getting.
