Dawn of the Planet of the Drones

As Drones or UAVs become more popular and mainstream, it’s inevitable that in addition to the innovation going on today in the commercial sector, you and I will naturally find somewhat more cool and unusual uses for our personal Drones as after all we are smart cookies aren’t we ?

Entrepreneurs are already jumping on the business bandwagon – check out our article on Drone Entrepreneurship here – and world changing ideas can sometimes come accidentally when you least expect it.

Who knows, when we are bored (or inspired) one day and looking for fun and inventive uses for our drones, maybe this could translate into the next big thing.

Move Over Selfie Here Comes Dronie

So, have you taken a “Dronie” yet ?

Get ready to strike a pose and have some fun !

If they didn’t before Drone manufacturers fully realize the absolute importance of the camera as an integral part of a UAV as well as being convenient to carry around – just look at the new DJI Mavic Pro which is in direct response to the GoPro Karma offering.

More than one of the forward thinking and entrepreneurial manufacturers realizes that “Dronies” are becoming extremely popular.

This will explode in the future, so the race is on making specific Drones whose sole purpose is to take your selfie pictures and video footage – no controller or manual flying needed.

How Many Drones Does it Take to Change a Lightbulb?

OK, getting back to the more unusual and inventive uses for Drones, here is a great example of that lightbulb moment!

Whilst it is now technically possible to get a drone to change a lightbulb, we don’t think that they are going to become popular at this task anytime soon, so your trusty chair, box or stepladders are still the best option for now.

You be the judge. Have a look at this quite funny video just to prove it’s possible if you persevere….

We Love a Nice Bit Of Cake – Who Doesn’t?

Cake making is possibly something of an art form if done correctly.

You would be forgiven for thinking that this is definitely something Drones won’t ever be getting involved with – but think again ! Bet you didn’t think that drones could not only make cakes, but decorate them as well?

Here is another surprising example of just how versatile these little machines can be….

  1. Great article. I have to say that I’m a bit in the dark in the world of drones and I certainly wouldn’t have thought to use them like this! I heard Amazon were developing a drone delivery service, I hope this is true. I’d love to see one turning up on my doorstep!

    1. Thanks Jimmy, yes a lot going on in the drone world and you’ll see a lot more uses for them in the future. You are right Amazon are doing some heavy duty trials and most likely just a matter of time before that delivery drone knocks on your door !

      All the best, Nigel

  2. I’d love to have a drone and I’m still keen to get one at some stage. Only problem is the government seems to be creating new laws restricting their use every day of the week.

That aside, I found your post very entertaining and the videos were great to watch. I love the idea of using drones to make a cake. Not very practical, but intriguing and entertaining.

    1. Thanks for your comments Darren, really appreciated. Yes restrictions are in place and needed for aviation safety but for recreational use sticking within the rules hopefully won’t spoil your enjoyment.

I agree, fun to watch but I don’t think I will be getting my drone to make me a cake anytime soon !!

  3. Drones are becoming very popular. There’s always something new immerging around drone utilization.

However, I’m not sure about this notion of using drone for package delivery. Nowadays there’s mischief everywhere, and if package delivery via drones ever materializes, I can see a lot drones either turning up missing in action or destroyed by people who have too much time on their hands, if you know what I mean. I think they really need to think twice on the deal.

    1. Thanks for the interesting comments, and I can certainly see your point of view. It’s sad if people choose to do negative things and I guess this will always happen, but I believe and hope that the good will out weight the bad in the end…
